A fascinating account of two journeys made by Thiercelin to New Caledonia, Chatham Islands, New Zealand, Tahiti and Hawaii. As a whaling ship's doctor he made his first trip on the Ville de Bordeaux in 1837-41, second on the Gustave in 1861-64. He gives his recollections of a Maori account of the conquest of the Chathams, as well as his experiences in Akaroa in 1840 and 1860.
