Author(s): Elizabeth Partridge
This beautiful volume celebrates the life and work of one of the 20th century's most important photographers, Dorothea Lange. The introduction presents an authoritative illustrated biography of Lange by her goddaughter, Elizabeth Partridge, compiled using rare archival materials available only to close family members of the artist (audio interviews, field notes, journal entries, and letters). The rest of the book comprises a career-spanning monograph of Lange's gorgeous and important work. This beautiful hardcover has the potential to be our current era's definitive book on Lange.
Elizabeth Partridge is the granddaughter of Imogen Cunningham, and the goddaughter of Dorothea Lange. When her father, Ron Partridge, decided at seventeen to become a photographer, his mother, Imogen Cunningham, sent him to work with their 'family friend,' Dorothea Lange. Elizabeth grew up in this extended, artistic family. She is an award-winning author of numerous books for children and young adults, as well two books of adult nonfiction, including Dorothea Lange: A Visual Life (Smithsonian University Press, 1993). With her sister, Meg Partridge, she also produced the companion film, Dorothea Lange: A Visual Life.
