The adventures of Frank Hurley have been brought to life by David Millar in his action-packed biography of one of Australia's most daring and important photographers. From Hurley's early life as a runaway schoolboy, Mr Millar takes us through his Antarctic expeditions with Sir Douglas Mawson and Sir Ernest Shackleton. Hurley's striving to achieve 'the perfect picture' regardless of the personal and physical cost was given full rein during this period of his career. After the harshness of the icy wastelands, Hurley was driven by his restless spirit to become one of Australia's official cameramen at the front during WWI and II. Also included in this biography is some previously unpublished work from his days as a pioneer photographer in Papua-New Guinea.
