This book is a communal effort.  Thirty three authors, including 10 former staff members and one Newstead resident, contributed chapters.  At least as many again contributed notes, anecdotes and photos. This was all done within 4 months, which makes their effort of even greater merit.   

The book deals with both research and recreation:  the former because that has been the main function of Ruakura;  and latter because work occupies only a quarter or so of a year,  so obviously much of the interest has occurred and still does after official hours.  A further very important reason why recreation is featured is that Ruakura, and particularly for its first 25 years, was very much a self-contained community for social and sporting activities.  Most people who worked there, lived on site and created their own entertainment. Some of this is described.
