Jack Boyer was born at Cape Foulwind on the West Coast in 1911. His family moved to New Plymouth when he was six; and he didn't return to the "Mainland" until he came to the Collingwood Goldfields during the Depression of the 1930s. He is married with a daughter and two sons, and has lived in Nelson for the last thirty years. An accident four years ago ended his gold prospecting days; now he has to be content with writing about his experiences and continuing his life long interest in amateur radio.
