They cover his stay in Canterbury (Kaiapoi) 1858-1860, Australia 1860-1866 and the West Coast 1866-1872. A first hand account which provides details of everything from the price of ale, wages, Maori funeral, Maori Wars, the Otago goldfields, gold mining on the West coast and exploration of the West Coast.
