Commissioned by the Waikato Health Memorabilia Trust in 2007, Under One Roof provides a comprehensive history of Waikato Hospital from its inception in 1887 until the year 2000. The book draws upon archival sources and interviews with long-serving staff members to map the institution's development within a range of historical contexts. In particular, it emphases the institution's rapid growth during the second half of the twentieth century, and the ramifications of that growth in financial, material, and personal terms. Waikato DHB is responsible for planning, funding and providing quality health and disability support services for the 360,270 people living in the Waikato DHB region. It has an annual turnover of $1 billion and employs more than 5800 people. Health Waikato is the DHB's main provider of hospital and health services with an annual budget of more than $606 million and 4740 staff. It has seven divisions across five hospital sites, two maternity and continuing care hospitals and 21 community bases offering a comprehensive range of primary, secondary and tertiary health services. A wide range of independent providers delivers other Waikato DHB-funded health services - including primary health, pharmacies and community laboratories.
