NZ Maritime | Secondhand

Leading Lights is a photographic and historical perspective on thirty lighthouses around New Zealand coastline which have had resident keepers at some time in their history. Anna Gibbon's text explores the lives of the men and women who, one, two and three generations ago, lived at these rugged coastal outposts. Delving into the log books of each lighthouse, she brings to life the stresses and strains under which keepers and their families worked; their interactions with each other and with the Lighthouse Service; their day-to-day activities and the sometimes humorous, sometimes sad incidents which characterised their isolated and lonely existence.

30 lighthouses from Cape Reinga to Puysegur Point, with their history, and colour photographs.
