Product Information

Carkeek, W C, 1931-1967, descendant from the chiefs of Ngati Toa and Ngāti Raukawa tribes. He was born in 1931 at Palmerston North. Son of Rikihana (Bunny) and Pareraukawa Carkeek. Educated at Horowhenua College and at Wellington Teachers College. He joined the staff of the Dominion, Wellington, in 1960, and became their Chief Reader. He was a memeber of the Polynesian Society and of the Wellington Regional Committee of the National Historic Places Trust. He wrote 'The Kapiti Coast' (1966), a history of the Ngāti Toa-Ngati Raukawa-Te Ati Awa tribes who settled there. The book became a notable addition to the literature of the Māori people.
