Brief Encounters : SomeUncommon Lawyers

used

Author(s): STRANGE, Glyn

Canterbury | Secondhand

Reprint, originally publisged 1997. The legal profession and those with historical interest should welcome the appearance of the third printing of this collection of essays on the lives of 14 prominent Canterbury (mostly Christchurch) lawyers. These legal lives were lived in more spacious, polite and measured times when the profession was more homogenous and far less given to the cant of political correctness which is so encouraged today. Reading these brief lives gives an insight into what characteristics in those times (and it is no different today) it was necessary to get to the top - a sense of civic obligation, an education not confined to the law, a keen intelligence,a persuasive address and decent professional behaviour.
