Joshua Williams 1837 - 1915 Lawyer, politician, judge, university chancellor. He qualified with honours at Cambridge emigrating to NZ in 1861. From 1895 to 1898 Williams served as first president of the Court of Arbitration, which had been established by the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1894. In 1914 Joshua Williams retired to England, where he became New Zealand's first permanent resident representative on the Privy Council.
