Edith Annie Howes (1872 – 1954) was a New Zealand teacher, educationalist, and writer of children's literature. In all she wrote about 30 books for children, some of which were reprinted many times.


In 1919 she published Tales out of school, in which she frankly criticised the demoralising conditions in New Zealand schools and explained her own educational philosophy. This book was based on articles which first appeared in the New Zealand Herald.
