Through the Trackless Bush, the Story of the NZ National Forest Survey

Author(s): MILLEN Julia

NZ Natural History

When instructed in 1945 to survey New Zealand's native forests, A.P.Thomson could not forsee the immensity of the task. With no equipement, facilities or staff, everything needed had to be begged, borrowed or otherwise requisitioned. For ten years, ground crews moved systematically through the native forests, decribing, measuring and recording as they went. Their task was helped by this country's aerial photography pioneer, Piet van Asch. This book is a wonderfully entertaining record of those years.
